Doha: As part of observing world autism awareness month, Qatar Institute for Speech and Hearing (QISH) group conducted its 6th Autism Awareness Walkathon at Al Bidda park recently.
QISH conducts an autism awareness walkathon every year in the month of April to spread awareness about the autism spectrum disorder to clear misunderstandings about the disorder from the minds of the public, and promote acceptance for the people with this condition. World Health Organization has declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day.
Over the last seven years, QISH has been successfully conducting autism awareness walkathon and associated seminars and workshops. This year more than 200 people including the staff and families participated in the walkathon.
The event was inaugurated by the QISH board of directors Niyas Kavungal, Sameer Abdullah, Dr. Muneer Ali, and Mohammed Miandad.
Holding on to the theme this year 2022 “Inclusion in the workplace” and “Leave no one behind”, QISH clinical Director Sathish Chandra Segar delivered autism awareness message followed by Tarek Massoud, Psychologist who talked about the prevalence of autism in Qatar and the world.
