Mogadishu: The Somali National Army announced on Wednesday that more than 23 members of the Al Shabaab group, affiliated with Al Qaeda, were killed in military operations in central and southeastern Somalia.
According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the operations were carried out this week in the Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions, in coordination with international partners.
The military also destroyed militant camps in the Moqokori area of Hiran region, which had been used by fighters involved in armed attacks.
Somalia has intensified its campaign against Al Shabaab for over a year, reporting significant territorial gains in central parts of the country previously controlled by the group.
