London--Fijian international forward Netani Talei has joined Harlequins until the end of the season, the English Premiership club confirmed on Wednesday.

Talei, 31, who normally operates as a number eight or flanker, has won 28 caps for Fiji, scoring four tries, and played a key role in their run to the 2007 World Cup quarter-finals.

Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O'Shea said he is confident Talei will made an immediate impact.

"With international call-ups and the squad stretched, Netani, who is vastly experienced and explosive, has come in and made an instant impression with everyone.

"He is a true professional in everything he does and we are delighted we have been able to extend his stay until the end of the season at the very least."

Talei was equally enthusiastic about the new deal.

"This opportunity is a blessing for me and I'm so happy to be back playing after recovering from injury, especially for one of the top teams in both the UK and Europe," he said.

"I'm looking forward to getting as much game time as possible for the rest of the season with Harlequins."

Talei has also enjoyed spells with Worcester Warriors, Edinburgh and Newport Gwent Dragons after coming up through the Fijian club system.

Harlequins, the 2012 English champions, are currently ninth in the 12-team Premiership with seven wins against eight defeats.
