Doha, Qatar: Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) H E Mariam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah affirmed that the recommendations of the Fourth National Forum on Human Rights provided a comprehensive roadmap to address the drug problem in societies around the world, while ensuring full adherence to human rights standards.

HE Al Attiyah said in remarks that the forum, held under the theme “Human Rights at the Heart of Drug Control: Challenges and Prospects for Sustainable Solutions”, addressed the latest developments related to drug use and trafficking, as well as mechanisms for confronting this phenomenon in light of the digital transformation and its growing impact on societies.

She highlighted the broad participation in the forum, noting that the strong turnout from national, regional, and international institutions reflects the significance of the issue discussed. She stressed that drug abuse and trafficking constitute serious violations of human rights, including the right to life, the right to health, and the right to an adequate standard of living.

Al Attiyah added that, as part of its continued commitment to following up on the outcomes and recommendations of its events, the National Human Rights Committee has formed a specialized committee to monitor the implementation of the forum’s recommendations. She emphasized that the committee aims to ensure the forum’s outcomes serve as a foundation for achieving the desired objectives in combating drugs, while also enhancing the active participation of youth in these efforts.
