San Salvador: Salvadoran authorities seized 650 kilos of cocaine dumped at sea overnight by drug smugglers in a speedboat who were trying to outrun a navy ship, prosecutors said Wednesday.

The occupants of the powerful smuggling craft managed to escape during the confrontation off El Salvador's Pacific coast, the prosecutors said in a statement posted to Twitter.

The street value of the cocaine was estimated at $16 million.
