Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Media Corporation on Monday officially unveiled its pioneering Arab initiative, the “Media Encyclopedia,” during a ceremony held at the Sanad-Doha Club in Msheireb – Heart of Doha.
The event was attended by HE Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani, CEO of Qatar Media Corporation; Prof. Khalid Al-Shafi, Media Advisor at QMC and Editor-in-Chief of The Peninsula; and several other leaders from local media organizations.

Speaking at the event, Mohammed Slaan Al-Marri, the General Supervisor of the project, said the launch marks a significant milestone in the Corporation’s efforts to build a comprehensive media reference grounded in scientific methodology that bridges academic research with practical media work.
Al-Marri added: “The Media Encyclopedia, whose website and digital platform we unveil today, is envisioned as a living window through which new generations can view the world of media—its concepts, tools, and perspectives.
We aspire for it to become a bridge connecting enthusiasts and experts, bringing knowledge closer to practice and ideas closer to reality. We wanted this platform to be simple to use, rich in content, accessible from anywhere, and capable of continuous knowledge updating, development, and enrichment. We present it today with every confidence so that it becomes available to everyone interested in media, opening its doors to research, development, and global dialogue.”
He explained that the Encyclopedia launches today, November 24, with 100 foundational terms available in written and audio formats. Visual content will follow within the next four months, while the printed edition is scheduled to be released at the Doha International Book Fair.
Al-Marri stressed that the Encyclopedia is designed to be dynamic, flexible, and continually evolving until it becomes a solid and integrated reference for the media sector.
The ceremony featured a panel discussion titled “Towards a New Reading of the Structure of Media Concepts,” moderated by journalist Abdulrahman Al-Shammari. The panel included Dr. Mohammed Al-Khateeb, Professor of Linguistics at Al-Azhar University and member of the Scientific Committee of the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic; Dr. Hanan Ahmed Al-Fayyad, faculty member at Qatar University; and media professional Ahmed Al-Sheikh.

The Media Encyclopedia aims to enrich Arabic-language media knowledge, support academics and practitioners, and keep pace with the rapid transformations of today’s digital media landscape.
