Jakarta: Authorities have begun evacuating residents near Indonesia's Jakarta industrial zone after detecting high levels of Cesium-137, a synthetic radioactive isotope.

Radiation task force spokesperson Bara Hasibuan said cleanup was completed at 20 of 22 affected sites. The contamination was first traced in August to a shrimp shipment bound for the U.S., prompting tighter import rules.

Cesium-137, linked to nuclear incidents like Chernobyl and Fukushima, is also used in industrial applications such as oil drilling.
