Doha hosted yesterday the fifth meeting of the Follow-up Committee on the execution of the Agreement concerning the implementation of the Doha Declaration of the Thirteenth UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
The meeting reviewed the three pillars of the Doha Declaration 2015 including (1- Judicial Integrity 2- Rehabilitation for Prisoners & Youth Crime Prevention through Sports-based programs 3- Education for Justice) in addition to the progress made in it, as well as options to combat terrorism and efforts done to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The meeting also conferred to encourage member States to implement and make more effective use of the relevant international conventions and protocols against terrorism, and reviewed the stages of implementation of the World Program me for the Doha Declaration. The Follow up Committee of Doha Declaration was set up to follow up on the Doha Agreement Implementation Program, which was signed on November 27, 2015.
The State of Qatar has assumed great importance to the implementation of the conclusions of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, hosted by Doha in April 2015 that resulted in the Doha Declaration. A special committee was established to follow up the execution of the Declaration and to make it a reality under the UNODC with the support and funding of Qatar. The Doha Declaration calls to “Integrating crime prevention and criminal justice into the wider United Nations agenda, endorsed by the General Assembly”, around the concept that the rule of law and sustainable development are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.
