Best Buddies Qatar, a government non-profit organization, aims to enhance life of people with intellectual disabilities through social integration and one-to-one long lasting friendships.
The Managing Director, Laalei Abu Alfain, spoke on the perspectives of the organization in the following academic year: “Best Buddies Qatar has planned a variety of programmes to increase the number of its members by 30 percent, to hold more sports events and to educate people with intellectual disabilities within the priorities of our vision.”
It is worth mentioning that during September Best Buddies Qatar holds a line of lectures and workshops on intellectual disabilities and the art of dealing with people with disabilities. Their objectives are to promote the integration of people with intellectual disabilities; to engage more volunteers into the organization work, to show their role in the development of the community in achieving the vision of Qatar 2030 in the field of social development.
Best Buddies Qatar has permanently expanded cooperation with governmental and nongovernmental authorities and institutions. Among them are: The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Bowling Federation, the National Committee for Winter Sports, Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company, Renaissance Doha City Center hotel, Wyndham Grand Regency hotel and many others.
Best Buddies Qatar Clubs will involve more volunteers without intellectual disability to commit to a one-to-one long lasting friendship with student with and intellectual disabilities matched by their age, gender, language, interests and to organize series of events for them.
In 2014-2015 academic year Best Buddies Qatar Clubs plans to hold a variety of events in educational institutes to provide social integration of people with intellectual disabilities all over the country. In addition Best Buddies Qatar aims to give lectures, workshops, and conduct social awareness campaigns for people with and without intellectual disabilities as well as to the officials at the colleges and schools in Qatar.The Peninsula
