Khartoum: Gezira State Governor in Central Sudan Ismail Awadallah praised the Qatari efforts in support of his country, and the Sudanese people, and its humanitarian aid to combat the effects of torrential rains.

He also valued its efforts in providing related support to the state, which had the greatest impact in achieving emergency relief and humanitarian aid to face the crisis.

This came during Awadallah's meeting with Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Sudan H E Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Kubaisi.

Al Kubaisi said in a statement that the visit comes to provide support to those affected by torrential rains in the Managil and southern Gezira regions. The Qatari aid convoy contains 500 tents and 45 tonnes of food items provided by Qatar Charity, he pointed out.

The ambassador explained that Qatar will send a field team to survey the affected areas and report on the actual needs, to provide the necessary assistance through the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, and the Qatar Fund. He noted that the Managil region is in dire need of aid and that the damage is greater than what local efforts can achieve.

The Gezira region is at the forefront of the Sudanese states that were severely affected by torrential rains and floods.

More than 92 villages were affected in the Managil region; more than 3,000 houses had completely collapsed and over 2,000 had partially collapsed, in addition to the damages to large agricultural areas.
