Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has built 33 schools in 10 African countries over the past three years at a total cost of QR13.4m donated by Qatari philanthropists.
The Foundation said in a report published yesterday the establishment of the schools, which comes within the framework of its strategic plan in the field of education, is aimed at supporting the efforts and governmental programmes being undertaken by these countries to spread education and eradicate illiteracy.
The report pointed out that Somalia has received the largest share of these educational projects with 9 primary, preparatory, secondary and industrial schools along with a secondary nursing in different parts of the country.
Sudan, Ghana and Mali have also benefited from the projects with five different schools for each in order to enhance their efforts to support their national educational systems.
RAF has also built six schools with two schools in the Comoros, Chad and Mauritania and a school each in Djibouti, Niger and Tunisia. RAF leads global efforts and initiatives in the field of education, such as the Food and Light Initiative, which provides needy families with economic support and hence helps thousands of children.
