Doha Center for Media Freedom (DCMF) is set to participate in the international conference by National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in collaboration with the International Federation for the Protection of Journalists, under the title “Freedom of Expression: Towards Confronting Risk” in Doha on July 24 and 25.
The center will present a paper in one of the sessions of the conference about “Freedom of Information and the Rights of Journalists: Towards a pluralistic, independent and free media”.
DCMF will also hold a cartoon exhibition during the conference on freedom of expression and challenges facing the right to access to information.
The conference will address the challenges to freedom of expression and exchange, access to information that have accompanied the rapid spread of modern technologies.
Through various sessions, the conference will discuss how to address the enforcement of international human rights law, instruments and procedures with regards to freedom of opinion and expression and access to information, the problems and challenges to international human rights law in connection with modern communication technology, means to protect and support journalists and promote pluralistic, independent and free media, ways to enhance the protection of journalists in hostile zones and conflict areas and end impunity for crimes against journalists, and ways to raise up to ethical challenges.
