Doha, Qatar: Bahrain, in two separate cases, sentenced nine individuals to life imprisonment and two others to three years in jail for spying and collaborating with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Bahrain News Agency stated that the accused were involved in gathering information on vital infrastructure and sensitive sites, as well as facilitating financial transfers between Bahraini and Iranian bank accounts.
Some of the accused were also recruited with to provide cover for the defendants and divert suspicion from the authorities.
This comes following the arrest of 41 individuals in espionage cases in the first week of May.
