Doha: The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at Qatar University organised a two-day short training course entitled “Workshop on Membrane Based Water Treatment”.

A number of engineers working in water technology at Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) and Kahramaa attended the workshop. The workshop consisted of lectures and training sessions given by experts in the field.

The workshop is a reinforcement of this vital industry in Qatar. Particularly, after Qatar’s recent enrolment in desalination using membranes and Reverse Osmosis (RO), which saves energy compared to the thermal technologies currently used in Qatar, as the country moves towards energy saving and eco-friendly alternative energy.

Dr. Mohammad Irshidat, the director of CAM said, “This workshop comes within the framework of the trainings and transfer of knowledge activities carried out by the Water Technology Unit that was recently established at CAM in collaboration with UNESCO Chair in Desalination and Water Treatment.”

The Water Technology Unit (WTU) was recently established at the Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM) in Qatar University. WTU built its capacity to focus on complete water characterisation using the state-of-the-art equipment needed for detailed analysis of water, related chemicals, and develop/adopt new technologies suitable for Qatar’s water conditions.

Furthermore, the WTU contributes to developing technologies for increasing water capacity through reuse from industrial processed and produced water.

CAM is a unique research centre of QU that has been dedicated to providing outstanding excellence in materials science and technologies supported by well-equipped laboratories and high-calibre experts from around the world.
