Qatar to celebrates World Immunisation Week, which will be held from April 24 to 30, under the theme 'Vaccines Work.'
On the occasion, the Ministry of Health is organising a number of educational and awareness activities targeting different segments of the society, including educational and awareness events in a number shopping centres and malls during the weekend.
The Ministry hosts tomorrow a three-day workshop on effective vaccine management. in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO) with the participation of the Ministry's immunisation staff at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Center along with a number of health workers in the private health sector.
Immunisation averts 2 to 3 million deaths annually; however, an additional 1.5 million deaths could be avoided if global vaccination coverage improves.
The World Immunisation Week aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Immunisation saves millions of lives and is widely recognised as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Today, there are still 19.4 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world.
