Doha, Qatar: Qatar has affirmed its support for efforts aimed at strengthening the humanitarian response, stressing the importance of consolidating the principle of international solidarity and sharing burdens and responsibilities in light of the unprecedented rise in the number of refugees and displaced persons.
This came in a statement by the State of Qatar, delivered yesterday by H E Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during her participation in the “Briefing to Member States on the Humanitarian Crisis in the Middle East, with a Focus on Lebanon,” organised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva.
Al Muftah emphasised that addressing the root causes of conflicts remains the foundation of any sustainable response, noting that investing in peace, preventing conflicts, and promoting inclusive dialogue are urgent necessities to create conditions for safe return and achieve stability.
She also pointed to the announcement by the Qatar Fund for Development regarding the provision of urgent humanitarian support to those affected in the sisterly Lebanese Republic.
The emergency intervention is being delivered through its partners, Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent, with the aim of providing immediate humanitarian assistance to more than 40,000 affected displaced families through the distribution of food baskets and essential supplies.
Al Muftah expressed Qatar’s deep concern over the increasing number of refugees and displaced persons in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as declining levels of funding, which further exacerbate humanitarian challenges. She called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and provide adequate support to refugees.
