Beijing: At least 19 miners were killed in a coal mine accident in north China's Shanxi Province Wednesday night, Chinese sources said Thursday.

The accident occurred at around 10:10 pm in the mine of Shanxi Datong Coal Mine Group, the Chinese News Agency (Xinhua) reported sources as saying.

Search and rescue efforts are under way.

China is the world's largest coal producer, and deadly accidents in the sector are common.
