Doha: Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will hold a concert tomorrow at Qatar National Convention Centre entitled “Brahms Meets Haydn.”
The concert will have two timings, one at 5pm and the second at 7.30pm.
In a statement, QPO said: “This concert promises an evening of Brahms, including Haydn Variations and Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Haydn Variations was written in 1873 and is a testimony to Brahms’ mastery of the technique of variation. The variations are based on a simple theme that was thought to be of Joseph Haydn’s composition at the time, though we now know this attribution was incorrect. Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major is one of the most cheerful of his mature works, and its happy nature could be because it was composed during a summer holiday in 1877 while living on the shores of an Austrian lake.”
Elias Grandy will be the Conductor for this concert. He is one of the leading conductors of his generation with a reputation for exceptional versatility, equally at home in the concert hall and opera house. In 2019/2020, he embarks on an exciting season that will see him conduct internationally. Notable debuts in North America and Japan in the first half of the season will take him to Minnesota Opera with Strauss’ Elektra, as well as to Nikikai Opera in Tokyo with Bizet’s Carmen. In January 2020, he returns to Japan with an exciting program including works by Strauss, Saint-Saëns and Mozart with the renowned Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.
Interested individuals may book their tickets via QPO’s website.
