Doha:  Hosts Qatar went down fighting 24-18 to Poland in the boys Group A match of the 24th ISF World Schools Handball Championships here yesterday.
At the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Stadium in Al Sadd, Qatar who won their first match on the opening day against Morocco 39-12, matched their opponents and scored goals at a regular interval but Poland broke free from the defensive shackles to register a fighting win.
In the other match of the same group, Australia trounced Denmark 23-12.
Meanwhile in the other matches of the boy’s section, in Group B, handball power house France thrashed Serbia 30-19 while Croatia eased to a 31-12 win over Bulgaria 31-12.
In the Group D matches, both Romania and Germany registered convincing win over Georgia and Israel.
Romania outplayed Georgia 30-15 while Germany pocked a 31-20 win over Israel.
In the girl’s section in matches played at Aspire Zone and at Qatar Women’s Sports Committee Hall, In Group C, Sweden netted six goals without any reply against Poland, while Slovenia set aside the challenge of Greece 23-12.
In Group D, Croatia had it easy against Georgia, wining the encounter 26-9, while Romania subdued Israel 28-15.
In another match of Group A, Turkey overpowered Bulgaria 35-16, while in the Group B match, Hungary registered a comfortable 29-16 win over Czech Republic 29-16.
