Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced that Saturday, January 24, 2026, signalled the start of the "Bard al Azariq" period.

The country is expected to experience the "coldest days of the winter season" until the end of the month as Bard Al Azariq lasts for 8 days, according to QCH.

The reason for al-Azariq's naming, which is derived from the Arabic word for the colour blue, is that faces and limbs would turn blue due to the severity of the cold experienced during this period.

The Qatar Meteorological Department (QMD) warned earlier that temperatures were expected to experience a "noticeable drop" from January 21.

QMD also warned of rain ranging from light to moderate in internsity over some areas on Sunday, January 25, 2026, with weather conditions forecast to range from partly cloudy to cloudy.
