The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will unveil the achievements of the first year of its ‘Screen for Life’ programme at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress in Dubai from January 30 to February 2. Its ongoing efforts to raise awareness about breast and bowel cancer in Qatar will also be highlighted at the event.
During the event, Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Programme Manager at PHCC, will address the audience and give a presentation about the programme, its aims and results for the past 12 months.
In addition, Dr Shaikha will also outline plans for the programme to reach out to as many people in Qatar as possible and keep the spotlight on cancer awareness.
“Having a healthy population, whose wellness is enhanced through an accessible, effective and safe healthcare system is crucial to the future of Qatar,” said Dr Shaikha, commenting on the programme participation.
“The ‘Screen for Life’ programme, to address rising cases of breast and bowel cancer, was designed to influence behaviour from every angle – from patient education to physician education through to knowledge within the media to get the message out.”
During its first year, ‘Screen for Life’ offered breast cancer screening to women aged 45 to 69, the age group of those most at risk, while bowel cancer screening was offered to males and females aged 50 to 74.
Plans for the second year of the campaign and beyond include a strategy to further expand the outreach. There will be additional milestones met and exceeded, in addition to initiatives and awareness activities both led by the programme and in partnership with entities across Qatar.
Participation in regional and international events such as Arab Health Exhibition and Congress highlights the efforts Qatar, through PHCC, is taking to ensure a healthy population, and its desire to showcase the ‘Screen for Life’ programme as a key driver in its goal.
