Saudi Arabia’s Ali Hussein swept all three gold medals in the Arab Junior category.
Doha, Qatar: The combined 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup 2025, Arab Championships, and West Asian Championships continued in Doha, with competitions running until December 27.
Egypt’s Mohamed Metwally led the Arab Senior 71kg category, winning gold in the clean and jerk at 159kg and the total at 288kg, plus silver in the snatch. Saudi Arabia’s Ali Hussein claimed snatch gold at 130kg and total silver, while Egypt’s Iyad Tantawi collected three bronze medals. Libya’s Mohamed Ali Shalabi took silver in the clean and jerk.
In the Arab Youth events, Egypt again topped the podium through Metwally, with Saudi Arabia’s Ali Hussein and Egypt’s Iyad Tantawi also among the medalists. The Arab Junior category saw Saudi Arabia’s Ali Hussein sweep all three gold medals, ahead of Syria’s Ali Dabaoul and Kuwait’s Issa Shaher.
In the Qatar Cup men’s 71kg class, Turkmenistan’s Bunyad Rashidov won gold in the snatch and total. South Korea’s Lee Sang-eun took clean and jerk gold, while Thailand’s Tirawat Ratvit and South Korea’s Park Jang-woo also reached the podium.
Qatar’s Abdullah Ali Diab finished seventh in the 73kg category on his debut with the national team, lifting a total of 219kg. His participation forms part of Qatar’s preparation plan, aimed at building experience against elite international lifters.
