Doha: Qatar’s Ali Al-Mohannadi won gold in the men’s 50m rifle prone event at the Kazakhstan Open Grand Prix Shooting Championship yesterday.

Al-Mohannadi topped the standings with 623.1 points after six rounds, beating Kazakhstan’s Islam Satbayev, who scored 621.5 points to take silver.

Arseniy Levantsov, competing under a neutral flag, claimed bronze with 620.4 points.

The championship, running until October 28 in Shymkent, features 221 shooters from 14 countries.

The programme includes rifle, pistol and shotgun events, with results counting towards world rankings.

Mohammed Abdul Mohsen, chairman of the Pistol, Rifle and Moving Targets Committee at the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, praised Al-Mohannadi’s performance, highlighting his focus, consistency and confidence throughout the competition.

He said the gold medal reflected the progress of Qatari shooting and the federation’s efforts to develop athletes through intensive training, overseas camps and international competition.

He also highlighted recent performances by Qatari shooters at the World Rifle and Pistol Championships in Cairo.

Nasser Al-Sunaid scored a personal best of 571 points in the 10m pistol event, while Duaa Rahmatullah recorded 575 points in the 25m pistol competition.
