DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has issued a fresh warning against celebratory gunfire or shooting of a firearm into the air during wedding, private and public functions.
The ministry has said it is against Qatari laws that regulate the licensing and use of firearms to indulge in celebratory gunfire, so legal action will be taken against violators.
Some people continue to carry weapons and shoot in the air during private functions and wedding celebrations, the ministry tweeted yesterday.
The ministry has posted six comments related to the issue on its Twitter account: MOI_Qatar Arabic version. According to the law regulating weapons and ammunitions (No. 14 of 1999), it is prohibited to carry weapons in state celebrations, public and private functions (like weddings) even if licensed, said a comment.
Shooting firearms into the air during social celebrations, especially in wedding parties, is very dangerous as it might lead to casualties and property losses, said another comment.
Weapon is a lethal symbol. However, wedding is all about happiness and joy. So be careful! Do not carry arms to avoid any untoward incidents, it said.
