Doha, Qatar: Abdullah Rashad Mohi El Din Babiker won Qatar’s second medal at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, clinching bronze in the under-84kg kumite at Toyohashi Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture yesterday.
Abdullah defeated Palestine’s Abdullah Al Khatib 8-0 in the bronze medal bout after a dominant performance, adding to Qatar’s karate tally after Abdulrahman Abdulhamid won silver in the under-60kg category on Sunday.

“It was a tough competition and I am very happy and proud to have reached the podium. This achievement will motivate me to bring more laurels for Qatar,” said Abdullah.
Team Qatar celebrated the karateka’s success in the presence of senior Qatar Olympic Committee officials at Bayt Qatar.
President of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo and Karate Federation Eid Al Marikhi expressed his delight with Qatar’s performance in karate.
“I congratulate the athletes, the technical and administrative staff, and the entire Qatari karate family,” Al Marikhi said.
“These achievements did not happen by chance. They are the result of sustained work and tremendous effort, and our commitment to preparing the athletes well for the Games.”
He added: “I also commend the Algerian coach, who took charge around three months ago. He worked extremely hard with the athletes and, in a short period, prepared the team well. His contribution has been clear.”
Al Marikhi said winning two medals with only three Qatari karate athletes competing was a highly positive outcome, but stressed that the team’s ambitions extend beyond these medals as preparations continue for upcoming competitions on the road to Doha 2030.
At the General Shooting Gallery, Qatar’s men’s skeet team comprising Rashed Saleh Al-Athba, Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and Ali Ahmed Al-Ishaq stayed on top after the fourth round with a total of 283, eyeing a gold medal today.

Kazakhstan are second with 280, followed by Chinese Taipei and Kuwait on 278 each.
The 25-shot qualification round concludes today, with the top eight shooters progressing to the medal round.
Al Attiyah remains in contention for the individual gold, with the rally star and London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist sitting fifth on 95 shots, tied with four other shooters. Al Athba is also on 95 and occupies ninth place, while Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq is 14th on 93.
In the women’s team standings, Qatar are sixth among seven teams with 249 shots. China lead the competition on 287, ahead of Kazakhstan on 274 and India on 266.
Reem Al Sharshani is Qatar’s top individual performer in the women’s event, ranking 10th with 89 shots. Hajar Mohammed is 21st on 81, while Sarah Ghulam Mohammed is 23rd on 79.

In women’s 3x3 basketball, Qatar suffered back-to-back defeats, losing 19-16 to Sri Lanka before going down 21-3 to China.
Qatar’s women are in Group A alongside China, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s men’s 3x3 basketball team faces Bahrain today after opening their campaign with victories over Indonesia and Chinese Taipei.
Qatar’s squash campaign also begins today, with Abdullah Al-Tamimi facing Mongolia’s Yesun Otgonchimeg and Salem Al-Maliki taking on the Republic of Korea’s Na Ju-young.
The team will target strong starts and seek to build on Al-Tamimi’s bronze medal in the men’s singles at Hangzhou 2022.
