Ashgabat: Qatari snooker team advanced to the quarterfinals after beating hosts Turkmenistan in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, currently being held in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.
In the first game, Ahmad Saif beat Turkmenistan’s Aziz Dordiev and while in the second Khamis Al Obaidli beat Ibrahim Sedanzov.
In the doubles match, Qatar’s Ahmed Saif and Khamis Al-Obaidli defeated their Turkmenistan counterparts.
The Qatar snooker team will meet Thai counterparts today in the quarter-finals.
In the swimming competition, Abdullah Abu Ghazaleh finished in the 24th place and his teammate Firas Saidi completed the race three places below in the 50m freestyle competition.
In the other swimming events, Nasser Nasser and Abdulrahman Hisham finished 22 and 23 respectively.
In the another pool race, Abdulrahman Hisham, came 13th in the qualifiers and was followed by Abdulaziz Al Obaidli in the 15th place.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad, Chairman of the Asian Olympic Council, met with the Qatari delegation during the ceremony which was held on the sidelines of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games where the delegation included Deputy Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim Al Buainain, and Director of Sports Affairs Khalil Al Jaber.
