DOHA: The Ministry of Interior, together with expatriate communities, has organised more comprehensive events at increased number of venues to mark Eid Al Adha.
The three-day ‘cultural, recreation and awareness activities on the occasion of Eid Al Adha 2015 for communities’ have increased venues to five — separate places for each community, Brig. Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Director, Public Relations Department, told a press conference yesterday.
“This year’s Eid celebrations for communities are more comprehensive as we are organising separate programmes for different communities at different venues to make their participation more active and wide,” he said.
On the first and second days of Eid, a mega cultural event will be held at Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area between 5pm and 10pm. It will be for the Nepalese community and those living in Al Khor and Ras Laffan.
Celebrations for the Indian community will be held at MES Indian School Open Theatre in Mesaimeer on Thursday between 5pm and 11pm.
Variety of events will be held representing the cultural and linguistic diversity of India, including Bhangra dance, traditional dances, Panjari Melam, thematic show on Qatar-Indian relationship and songs in Indian languages by popular singers in Qatar from ‘Sariga orchestra troop’.
Events for the Sri Lankan community will be held on Thursday between 5pm and 10pm at Sri Lankan School near Midmac Roundabout in Doha. To be performed by the Sri Lankan community, events include soft music, traditional Baila songs, songs by Gayan, Evens and Priyantha in Sinhala and other languages and traditional dance by school students. Events for the Pakistan community will be held at Wakra Sports Club indoor football stadium on Friday between 5pm and 10pm.
Artists and singers will be flown in and include Afshan Zebi, Noorjahan and Usman Bangesh who is based in Dubai.
They will perform in Urdu, Pashto, Punjabi, Persian, Balochi and Saraiki languages.
A special comedy show will be performed by popular Pakistani comedian Khawaja Masood.
Events for the Bangladeshi community will be held on Saturday at Wakra Sports Club Indoor Stadium. Traditional dances and songs in different languages will be performed by Bangla artists.
There will be separate sitting arrangements for families and single workers at venues.
The Peninsula
