158,113 traffic violations last month

DOHA: Traffic violations increased by more than 30 percent in August compared to July, reaching 158,113, according to monthly statistical data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics. However, mortality rate in traffic accidents dropped by 70 percent during the period, Al Sharq reports.
A total of 8,309 vehicles were registered in August, an increase by 7.5 percent, from July when 7,729 were registered.
The population reached 2.28 million, up 10.2 percent, compared to the same period last year of 2.007 million. Visitors number increased by 6.4 percent until August this year, compared to the same period last year. 
People from other GCC countries formed a major portion of the visitors — 44.2 percent.
Data also show the number of Qatari beneficiaries of social security reached 12,112 in August, up by one percent, compared to July when the number was 11,993.
