Doha: Angelina Jolie opened her Instagram account on Friday with a letter from a teenage girl in Afghanistan.

Hollywood's acclaimed actress who is known for her humanitarian work came on Instagram to share the voice of those across the globe who are fighting for basic human rights.

"Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely... So I've come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights," Jolie wrote in the caption of her first post. The post A Letter From An Afghan Girl is a handwritten note from a teenage girl in the now-Taliban ruled Afghanistan.

According to media reports, Jolie quickly became the fastest user on the app to reach one million followers. She gained 2.1 million new followers in under three hours, beating David Attenborough's four hours 44 minutes.

Jolie's second post that has over 1m likes talks about displaced people. Accompanied by data and pictures, the post calls for action against environmental devastation, conflict and human rights abuses that fuel crises.

Her Insta bio reads mom, filmmaker, special envoy for UN @refugees with her account following only three accounts the NAACP, Doctors Without Borders and UNHCR.
