ZURICH: Former 400 metres world champion Amantle Montsho is facing a ban after her B sample from the Commonwealth Games also failed a doping test.
“Ms Montsho requested that her B sample be analysed, which subsequently confirmed the initial A sample analysis,” the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) said in a statement yesterday.
Botswana’s Montsho, who finished fourth in the women’s 400m final at the Glasgow Games, provided a positive A sample that contained the prohibited stimulant methylhexaneamine.
The 31-year-old athlete, who won gold at the world championships in Daegu in 2011 and silver in Moscow two years later, accepted the finding of the second sample test and waived her right to a hearing, the CGF statement added.
Montsho has been disqualified from the recent Glasgow Games and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will now take further action in accordance with World Anti-Doping Code, the governing body added.
Montsho was the most high profile athlete to fail a drugs test at the Games.
