Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has launched a social media awareness campaign to educate the public about blood cancers, their risk factors, warning signs and the importance of early detection.
As part of the campaign, QCS highlighted that blood cancers include several types of diseases, with lymphoma and leukemia among the most common.
“Awareness begins with understanding the factors that may affect our health,” QCS said, emphasising that learning about risk factors associated with blood cancers can help individuals make informed choices and prioritise their well-being.
The society noted that the body often provides signals when something is not right, and paying attention to persistent or unusual symptoms and consulting a doctor are important steps in protecting health.
According to QCS, common warning signs of blood cancers may include unexplained weight loss, ongoing fatigue, frequent or severe infections, easy bruising or bleeding, night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, and bone or joint pain.
However, the society stressed that experiencing these symptoms does not necessarily mean a person has cancer, but advised individuals to seek medical advice if such signs persist or appear.
The awareness campaign also highlighted several factors that may increase the risk of developing blood cancers, including exposure to certain chemicals such as benzene, radiation exposure, a family history of cancer, certain viral infections, smoking, and a weakened immune system.
QCS continues to promote cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of regular health awareness among members of the community.
