RIYADH: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani strongly denounced statements made by Iraqi vice president Nouri Al Maliki in an interview with an Iraqi satellite channel about Saudi Arabia.
In a press statement released Thursday, Al Zayani described Al Maliki's remarks as "irresponsible, false and disgraceful accusations " and did not assist to enhance Gulf-Iraq relations.
These provocative and unrealistic statements are among Al Maliki's "known endeavors" seeking to harm Iraq's relations with the Arab brethren , Al- Zayani added, while saying attitudes and sincere efforts of Saudi Arabia and the GCC states towards the fight against terrorism put them at the forefront of the world countries in this regard.
GCC Chief said a part of these efforts is the effective participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the GCC states in the international coalition to fight Daesh group in Iraq and Syria, a matter that helps to boost Iraq's defense capacity and safeguard its unity, security and stability.
He stressed keenness of the GCC states to strengthen their relations with brotherly Iraq after years of tension resulting from the policies adopted by Al-Maliki .
