Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar, yesterday held a meeting with ambassadors of European Countries, US and Canada in Doha.
The meeting was to update the ambassadors about the humanitarian impact on all Qatari and GCC citizens due to the siege imposed on Qatar.
The total number of the complaints received by QNHRC has reached 2,324 and this shows the major victim of this crisis are the GCC citizens, Al Marri stressed during the meeting.
Al Marri has presented incidents of violations to the rights of the GCC citizens and efforts carried out by the QNHRC at local and international levels.
The Committee is preparing individual’s and group complaints on violation of human rights to the UN and human rights organisations as well to file cases in coordination with international law firm.
Al Marri also briefed the ambassadors about his visit to London, Paris, Geneva and Brussels to explain the violations of human rights because of the siege. He stressed that the international community should bear their humanitarian, moral and legal responsibilities towards the siege being imposed on Qatar.
There are good interactions and positive responses from the international community regarding the issues raised by the committee with concerned bodies in Europe at all levels.
The Committee will keep updating all ambassadors in Qatar about the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing crisis and blockade against citizens. There is a need of expressing solidarity with families affected because it is an illegal and inhuman siege imposed on Qatar and the GCC citizens, Al Marri concluded.
