Doha, Qatar: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held a phone call on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with HE Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the call, both sides reviewed the efforts aimed at achieving peace and strengthening security and stability in the region.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar's full support for the ongoing efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the crisis, stressing the need for all parties to respond to these efforts in a manner that contributes to achieving sustainable peace and the desired stability in the region.

His Excellency further emphasised that freedom of navigation is a well-established principle that must not be compromised, and that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure card only serves to deepen the crisis and endanger the vital interests of the countries of the region.

His Excellency underscored the importance of adhering to the rules of international law, the principles of good neighbourliness, and prioritise the interests of the region and its people, in a way that contributes to enhancing regional and international security and stability, and supports de-escalation efforts.
