Presiding and assistant presiding officers among four arrested

KARACHI: A presiding officer and two assistant presiding officers were among four people arrested by Rangers from polling stations during the NA-246 by-election in Karachi.  

The duty magistrate of Rangers exercised his authority and awarded prison sentences and fines to the four individuals.  

Presiding Officer Syed Majid Ali and another person were arrested from the Delhi School polling station. The two individuals were arrested trying to cast bogus votes. Majid Ali was sentenced to three months and fined Rs5,000 while Rehan Ahmed was sentenced to five months and fined Rs5,000.  

Assistant Presiding Officer Javed Siddique was arrested from the Sharifabad polling station for bogus voting while a female presiding officer was arrested for the same offence from a polling station in Azizabad. Both the assistant presiding officers were sentenced and fined on the spot by Rangers.
