Kahramaa marks 3rd Tarsheed anniversary

Doha: Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) celebrated the third anniversary of its National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) at Sheraton Doha under the patronage of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Qatar with the slogan “Tarsheed: Time Is Now’’.
The celebration was guided by Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Kahramaa’s President, Engineer Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, dignitaries, diplomats, high level officials from government and private sectors, senior officials of Kahramaa, environment champions, school children and others.
Through the celebration, Kahramaa announced its future strategies, projects and achieved targets for the ongoing massive programme. Kahramaa, through Tarsheed, aims at rationalising the consumption of water and electricity and intensifying  the culture of conservation of vital resources in Qatar. Kahramaa felicitated the winners (individual and corporate) who have been selected under various categories for their entries sought for a number of competitions being organised by Conservation and Energy Efficiency department.
The prime target of the Tarsheed is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively until 2017. The per capita consumption of water and electricity of Qatar is one of the highest in the world.
Since inception, Tarsheed managed to reduce per capita consumption of electricity by 11 percent and water by 11 percent to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.8 million tonnes, gas by 43 million cubic feet, and QR600m till end of 2014.  
Kahramaa felicitated winners of short story contest for schools, advertisement design for universitiesconservation building competition and best buildings in industrial, commercial, governmental, sports, tourism, and residential sectors. Buildings were evaluated based on the specific parameters set by the team of qualified experts. 
The Winners are:  Government sector; The new Emiri Diwan Annex – Musheireb Real Estate. 
Industrial: District Cooling Factory - Musheireb Real Estate.
Sports : Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena -  Qatar Olympic Committee.
Commercial:  Arkan building,  Lebriqa Real Estate Company, one of Al Diyar Real Estate Companies. 
Residential: Ali Al Safran. 
Tourism Sector: QNCC - Amlak Holding Company. 
Best renewable energy and energy efficiency initiative: 
Corporations;     Al Wakra beach for families – for using solar energy to operate LED lights. 
 Persons; Ahmed Hamad Al Badi Al Maadeed, owner of Enviro Company for global projects for the geowash (washing cars without wasting water).
Universities contest for Best TV commercial: First place, Mairna Ammar, HBKU - QF. Second place, Nesma Sherif, QU.
Best AD winners: First place, Khedr Ibrahim Sulaiman, QU, Second, Omar Ahmed Lotfi, QU. Third, Sara Abdulla Al Mutawa, HBKU - QF.
Short story contest for schools:  Preliminary     Hala  Meheid Ibrahim, Al Shaqb Independent School.
Preparatory, Nasser Mansour Abo Keshk, Al Imam Al Shafie Independent School. 
Secondary, Naiemuddin Muenuddin, Tarki bin Ziyad Secondary School. 
Kahramaa has also felicitated corporations for their support to Tarsheed since inception through signing MoUs, social support, scientific and research participation including Ezdan Holding, Qatar Tourism Authority, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Gardens Department, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Unilever company, ConocoPhilips, DFI, Qatar Debate, and Iberdrola Company. 
The Tarsheed program is marching towards achieving good result and public response. For creative conservation, the conservation and Energy Efficiency department (Tarsheedhas been organising various competitions throughout the year to engage all communities to get creative about conservation. It invites entries for Conserving Building Competition, Film making competition, Best Ads design and video competition for students and Best Renewable Energy Initiative Competition.
