ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday claimed that some voters were being deterred from voting for the PTI and Jamaat-i-Islami during the by-election in Karachi’s NA-246.
“I am seeing that voters are being discouraged and the Jamaat-i-Islami is also saying that an atmosphere of fear is being created,” said the PTI chairman, as he arrived at the Supreme Court for a session of the judicial commission investigating electoral rigging in the 2013 polls.
He claimed that the MQM would not be able to gather 140,000 votes as it did in earlier elections.
“The MQM has started making excuses already. They will not be able to gather 140,000 votes, as Nabeel Gabol claimed,” said the PTI chief. “They are making excuses like delays in polling.
Imran said that history was being made as free and fair elections were being held, and that this was a very positive development for Karachi.
Imran said that his party had gathered a large amount of documentary evidence to present in the judicial commission.
He said that his party had already submitted several pieces of evidence and was fully prepared to appear before the commission.
He said that his party has requested the judicial commission to record and examine statements of journalists Najam Sethi and Hamid Mir, and former MQM leader Nabeel Gabol among 13 witnesses in the judicial investigation into alleged electoral rigging in the 2013 general elections.
