DOHA: Qatar will host Latvia in an international friendly on May 24, confirmed the Qatar Football Association (QFA).

Coached by Fahad Thani, Qatar will take on the visitors at Al Sadd Stadium.

Qatar, who play two key 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in June, are scheduled to play a series of international friendlies in the coming months.

Qatar host Iran on June 4 and then play Uzbekistan in an away clash on June 18.

Last Wednesday, Qatar beat Palestine in a separate friendly.

Also known as ‘Al Anabi’, Qatar are in fourth place in Group A, Asian Zone, qualifying phase behind Uzbekistan, Korea and Iran.

The fifth side in the group, Lebanon is at the bottom of the points table.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Olympic squad will not travel to Indonesia for the Islamic Solidarity Games, it emerged.

Qatar were ready for the event  - which was to be held from June 6 to 17 - but will train elsewhere instead. The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) on Sunday received confirmation that the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Pekanbaru-Riau, Indonesia, have been postponed.

The competition has been moved to a further date due to “technical reasons”, QOC was informed. THE PENINSULA
