DOHA: Al Arabi on Sunday survived the drop from the Qatar Stars League (QSL) with a hard-fought 2-1 win over second division side Muaither.
Relying on goals from Australian import Matthew Spiranovic and midfielder Abdullah Al Araimi, Al Arabi beat Muaither in the tense play-off.
The only goal for the losers was scored by Letola when he converted a penalty kick a minute from the first-half whistle.
By virtue of Sunday’s win, Al Arabi will now stay in the 12-team QSL tier whereas Muaither will remain in the second division from the next season.
Al Arabi suffered in the first three months of the QSL season and fired as many coaches in an effort to get positive results.
