Registration now open for Old Doha Port Fishing Competition 2026

Doha, Qatar: Old Doha Port has announced that registration is now open for the third edition of the Old Doha Port Fishing Competition, taking place alongside the second edition of the Fishing Exhibition in March 2026. The competition is organized in collaboration with Doha Marina Sports Club.

Registration is open from February 24 to March 18, 2026 at the Doha Marine Sports Club headquarters, Sunday to Thursday, from 9AM to 2PM.

The third edition follows a landmark year for the competition, which saw a remarkable turnout with 578 participants across 132 teams, solidifying its position as the largest fishing competition in the country.

The competition will run from March 25 to 28, 2026, challenging fishing enthusiasts to land the largest Kingfish (Kanad) in Qatar's territorial waters over three days of competition. All teams will set out from Old Doha Port, with the awards ceremony taking place there on March 28, 2026. The competition invites fishing enthusiasts to compete in catching Kingfish (Kanad), one of the most prized and popular fish in the region. More than just a sporting event, it celebrates Qatar's deeply rooted maritime fishing traditions within a modern competitive format and an immersive, interactive experiences, in line with Old Doha Port's ongoing vision to safeguard and promote the country's seafaring heritage.

This year's edition features an impressive prize lineup that reflects the competition's growing status. The top ten teams will all be recognized, with the first, second, and third place teams receiving a GWM Tank 500, a GWM Tank 300, and a Haval H9 respectively, along with shopping vouchers.

Fourth place will receive a boat courtesy of Haloul Boat Factory, along with shopping vouchers, while teams finishing fifth through tenth will receive a combination of cash prizes and shopping vouchers in recognition of their performance.

Participants will set sail from Old Doha Port before sunset on March 25, spending two full days at sea. Each team must submit a video documenting their largest catch, including the fishing process, boat registration, and weight verification. The video submission deadline will be announced by the judging committee on the second day of the competition.

On the final day of the competition, March 28, 2026, participants will gather at Old Doha Port for live fish inspection and weight verification, followed by the awards ceremony held during the Fishing Exhibition at the port. Winners will be determined by the weight of the largest Kingfish (Kanad) caught, with the first valid submission serving as a tie-breaker in the event of equal weights. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 teams.

Team leaders must be Qatari captains (Nukhatha), while residents and fishing enthusiasts from GCC countries may participate as team members.
