Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara honoured the winners of the Katara Pigeon Race, which it organised in cooperation with the Youth Hobbies Center. It was led by Saif Saad Al Dosari, Director of Human Resources Department at the Foundation, Hassan Rashid Al-Rashed, Vice President of the Youth Hobbies Center, and Khalifa Majid Al Saad, Director of the Carrier Pigeon Department at the Centre.
Saif Saad Al-Dosari stressed that Katara seeks to sponsor and revive all kinds of Qatari heritage, including the Qatari folklore. Recalling that it had organised many events related to homing pigeons, including the Katara International Exhibition and Conference on homing pigeons, in 2020, where it released 3,350 pigeons.
It has also previously published a book entitled Carrier Pigeon for researchers.
For his part, Khalifa Majid Al Saad, director of the carrier pigeon department at the Youth Hobbies Center said this race is one of the largest carrier pigeon races in Qatar. He recorded the participation of 41 Qatari amateurs of various nationalities. While the total number of participating pigeons reached 1,570. He said that the race had started from Ruwais, within the sea 80 km, in addition to the internal distances for amateurs.
Ahmed Malallah Al Maliki came in first place, followed by Khalifa Nasser Al Kuwari, and Muhammad Izzat Ali Abbas. Khalifa Majid Al Saad, Director of the Carrier Pigeon Department at the centre, Hassan Rashid Al-Rashed, Vice President of the Youth Hobbies Center, and Khalifa Majid Al Saad, Director of the Carrier Pigeon Department at the Centre, were also honoured.
Participants also praised the atmosphere of the race, as it was an opportunity to exchange expertise, stressing their keenness to revive this authentic hobby, linked to Qatari folklore. They noted that Katara's interest in partnership with the Youth Hobbies Center makes them anticipate more events.
