Kahramaa celebrates graduation of 2nd batch of national service recruits

Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and the National Service Academy celebrated yesterday the graduation of the second batch of National Service Training Programme for Recruits in a special ceremony held at National Service Academy (Miqdam Camp). The programme was offered by Kahramaa for the second year in a row.

The ceremony was attended by Commander of the Joint Special Forces Brigadier General Jassim Ali Al Attiyah and Director of Joint Services Affairs, from Kahramaa Dr. Eng. Abdullah Mohsin Al Wahidi.

Three-and-a-half-month long programme included training of 31 recruits from the 17th batch, and mainly aims to provide national service recruits with basic knowledge in operating and managing water stations in the country for their use in emergency situations.

The training programme was divided into phases, and included intensive theoretical lectures that discussed the basics of operating and maintaining water stations, which were presented in training halls at Miqdam Camp.

The second phase, which spanned for three weeks, covered the basics of electricity and water installations, and was implemented in the Kahramaa training workshop in Abu Hamour. Third phase training focused on comprehensive practical training on such as how to operate water pumping stations. The workshops continued for two and a half months, as the recruits were distributed to ten different water stations.

They were trained by specialists on the various operational processes and how to deal with emergency, and the various mechanisms for delivering drinking water to customers. The integrated theoretical and practical sessions were supervised by a group of Kahramaa experts and engineers, who worked under the supervision of the Training Department in the Human Resources Department.

The seasons were held in coordination with the concerned departments, to improve the training plans and approved curricula and develop them according to the data available from the first batch of the training. During the ceremony, five recruits were honored in recognition of their excellence skills in technical and behavioural aspects throughout the training period. The participants, in general, expressed their full satisfaction with the content of the training and praised the educational methods used.

They stressed that the training programme provided a great opportunity to acquire many knowledge and skills related to water pumping and distribution operations, enabling them to enhancing State’s efforts in this sector and provide the necessary support in case of need.

This training programme comes within the framework of the partnership agreement signed by Kahramaa with the Ministry of Defence, to be the first government agency from outside the military sector to implement a training programme aimed at providing non-military skills to recruits.
