Qatar’s IPI declines slightly in September

Doha: Qatar’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) for September 2021 stood at 101.8 points, showing a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to the previous month (August 2021).

When compared on year-on-year basis, the IPI index has increased by 1.7 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2020, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show. The index of the “Mining” sector showed a decrease of 0.2 percent compared to the previous month (August 2021), as a result of the decrease in the quantities of “Crude oil petroleum and natural gas” by 0.2 percent, while “Other mining and quarrying” showed a decrease of 0.1 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (September 2020), the IPI of Mining increased by 1.3 percent. 

The index of the “Manufacturing” sector showed a decrease of 0.2 percent compared to the previous month as a result of the decrease in “Manufacture of basic metals” by 3.8 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 0.1 percent. 

In terms of annual change, comparing to September 2020, an increase of 4.6 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” by 51.0 percent, “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 23.8 percent, “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 17.2 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 6.8 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 3.2 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 1.2 percent. 

The “Electricity” sector showed a decrease of 8.0 percent in the production of “Electricity” group between September 2021 and the previous month, while the annual decrease was 2.1 percent. The index of the “Water” sector showed a decrease of 3.2 percent in the production of “Water” group between September 2021 and the previous month, while the annual decrease was 23.3 percent.
