Bangladesh expatriates women have formally launched their organisation “Women’s Association of Bangladesh-Qatar” yesterday at a ceremony held at their embassy premises. Tahmina Khanam Tisha has been named as its President.
The association has been termed as a non-profit, non-political and a voluntary social organisation aimed at promoting social, cultural and charitable interests. It will work as a platform for exchange of ideas and experiences on social issues among Bangladeshi ladies and with the other ladies’ organisation in Qatar and abroad. Special attention will be given to help Bangaldeshi women in Qatar develop self-awarness with regard to their health, education, use of technologies, social problems. etc.
A 25-member Executive Committee has been declared with Ghanima Rahman and Nafisa Noman as vice presidents. Kamrunnahar Zaman has been named the secretary general while Helena Kurshid, Rabiya Hasan, Shaila Zarif, Lisa Zaman, Bipasha Islam, Rashida Sultana, Jubaida Haque, Rubaiya Chowdury, Zerin Mugib, Sofia Yeasin, Kakoli Hasan, Lubna Nadir, Nasrin Sultana Moni, Farjana Rahman, Shelly Mostafa, Shamim Ara Begum, Nigar Sultana, Bikarunnessa Halim, Tahmina Salahuddin, Shahela Mahbuba Khatun and Dr Nasim have been trusted with different portfolios of the association.
The Patron of the Association Syed Masud Mahmood Khundoker, Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar, in a statement, welcomed the establishment of WAB, congratulated its members and said that such an organisation was long felt necessary in order to reach out to the ladies of Bangladesh origin in Qatar. He hoped that activities of the Association will complements the activities of the embassy and particularly in its endeavours to promote Bangladesh’s image abroad in general and in Qatar in particular. He also urged WAB to establish meaningful networks with other similar organisations working in Qatar and Bangladesh.
