HIL: 59 overseas players sign up for auction

New Delhi:  Fifty nine foreign players, including 27 Olympians have signed up for the next two editions of the Hockey India League (HIL) mini players auction to be held on November 18.

Hockey India (HI) Secretary General and HIL Chairman Narinder Batra said players from 12 countries have signed up for the auction.

“We are happy that players from 12 countries besides Indians have made themselves available for mini players auction for HIL. We are also pleased that maximum number of players from World Champions Australia and Argentina will be part of the auction.”

The top players who have made themselves available for the auction include Malaysian defender Azlan Misron, Korean defender Jongho Seo, New Zealand’s Ryan Archibald, England’s Barry Middleton, Spain’s Ramon Alegre and German Oliver Korn.

The HIL second edition will be played from January 23 to February 23. 

Meanwhile, HIL has decided to raise the franchisees’ salary cap by $75,000. The salary cap in the inaugural season was $650,000 which has now increased to $725,000. 

The inaugural season was won by Ranchi Rhinos. IANS
