Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has announced its upcoming regional forum titled, “The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Planning and Following Up on the Implementation of National Visions in Areas Related to Human Rights.” This significant event is set to take place in the Sultanate of Oman on July 24 and 25.
The forum is being organised in collaboration with the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, headquartered in Doha, and the Omani Human Rights Commission. Additional support comes from prominent international entities such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee.
Anticipated to draw 200 participants along with 50 organisations from the UN and other international and regional bodies, the forum aims to fortify the role of national human rights institutions in aligning national visions with human rights principles.
This initiative seeks to identify and prioritise human rights issues within national visions, harmonise laws and legislation with human rights standards, and enhance the capabilities of those responsible for implementing national visions.
Chairperson of the NHRC, H E Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah emphasised the forum’s goal to activate adherence to the Paris Principles, which support and guide the implementation of national visions.
She highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive data, information, and statistics to measure progress in human rights-related areas and ensure the integration of sustainable development goals (SDGs) within national frameworks.
