Leaders greet Belgian king

Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has sent a cable of congratulations to King Philippe Leopold Louis Marie of Belgium on his country’s National Day.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent a congratulatory cable to King Philippe.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable to King Philippe.

Qatar slams Algeria attacks


Doha: Qatar has condemned armed attacks in the province of Ain Defla in Algeria that killed nine soldiers and  three policemen and injured two others.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry stressed Qatar’s solidarity with Algeria in confronting acts of violence that aimed to destabilise security and terrorise innocent people. 
It reiterated Qatar’s firm stance on renouncing violence and terrorism in all their forms and manifestations whatever their motives and causes. QNA

QU orientation for teaching staff


DOHA: The Human Resource Department at Qatar University (QU) will hold an orientation meeting for teaching staff under the theme ‘Marhaba’ from August 16 to 27. 
The meeting, to be headed by Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham, President, QU, aims to groom teaching staff about QU and discuss topics related to QU’s organisational structure, its rules and regulations and administration. 
In the last academic year, QU  hired 220 teaching staff from over 40 countries to meet the increasing number of students. Staff strength this year stands at around 1,130.
