Australian Ambassador to Qatar, HE Shane Flanagan
Doha, Qatar: Australian Ambassador to Qatar, HE Shane Flanagan, expressed his sympathy following the incident during start-up of operations at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which led to an explosion and fire on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
In a social media post, the Ambassador sent his well-wishes and prayers to those missing, injured and their family members.
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced that 54 people were injured in the incident, while 18 individuals remain missing. The MOI has launched a search operation in coordination with the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group and Civil Defense teams.
