Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council and Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work towards mutual goals such as enhancing collaborative programs in several sectors including Sustainability, MedTech, and FoodTech. Through these joint programmes, the entities aim to open opportunities for innovative startups and businesses in both countries. A number of officials including QRDI Secretary General Eng. Omar Al Ansari and Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Global Markets) of Enterprise Singapore Tan Soon Kim took part in the signing ceremony.

QRDI and EnterpriseSG’s significant partnership also paves the way towards transitioning Qatar into an innovative and knowledge-based economy.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event, Eng. Al Ansari said: “Singapore has historically been successful in building R&D and innovation capabilities in Singapore. So we have a lot to collaborate on when it comes to building our own R&D and innovation capabilities in Qatar so that’s why it’s very crucial to partner with Enterprise Singapore.”

He added that the joint venture will enable more investors to explore and understand Qatar’s resilient innovation platforms. “What this encourages is that there’s more talent that will come to Qatar and choose Qatar to be a place to test and pilot technologies in all of our facilities. Singaporean companies and foreign talents will choose to be in Qatar to test and pilot their technologies here,” he said.

With this agreement, QRDI and EnterpriseSG will be anticipating innovation-driven growth of the two nations, noted Kim.  "Its very important because the QRDI is a premier agency in Qatar responsible for innovation and Research," he told The Peninsula
