Israel disputes U.N. report finding it may have committed Gaza war crimes

JERUSALEM-- Israel disputed on Monday the findings of a U.N. report that it may have committed war crimes in the 2014 Gaza conflict.

"In defending itself against attacks, Israel's military acted according to the highest international standards," the Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement after a year-long U.N. inquiry, the ministry said the findings failed to differentiate between Israel's "moral behaviour" and the actions of Palestinian "terror organisations" it confronted during the 50-day war.

There was no immediate comment from Hamas, the dominant Palestinian movement in Gaza, which the report said also may have committed war crimes in firing rockets at Israeli villages and cities.
